Warning Signs That You May Have Termites

termitesOf all pests to invade your home, termites are the most devastating. They are so indiscreet, you’re more likely to notice the damage before you realize you have a termite problem. In Polk County, Florida there are two types of termites that are common to the area:

  1. Subterranean – These are the most destructive and they come in three different “castes;” workers, soldiers, and reproductive. Reproductive termites have wings and are easily mistaken for flying ants. Once they’ve mated, reproductive termites shed their wings, which appear like fish scales.
  2. Drywood – These termites cause substantial damage, but they are less common. They also require little moisture to survive. Found in dry wood, such as wood furniture, framing, and firewood, they leave behind fecal pellets (1 mm long).

Whether subterranean or drywood, any type of termite can be devastating to you, your home, and its property value. If you suspect you might have termites, please don’t hesitate in giving us a call. We specialize in treatments and termite inspections.
