If you own pets, then you probably know just how much of a headache a flea infestation can be. It can quickly become a nightmare! These pests will eventually move on from your pets and start biting both you and your loved ones. You need to get rid of them as quickly as possible since they can actually spread diseases.

The main concern with fleas is the way they bite. While they rarely bite a human, when they do then these pests can transmit a number of diseases. They mainly bite your pets but can become quite annoying. Fortunately, there are a number of flea remedies that you can try in order to get rid of these pests.

Note: Flea infestations are quite difficult to get rid of so if the problem persists, you should call in a professional exterminator to take care of the problem for you.

Remedy #1: Dish Soap

This remedy involves you creating flea traps using a mixture of dish soap and water. You just fill a bowl with warm water and dish soap, placing it in rooms where you feel there is a lot of flea activity. The soap acts as a glue which traps fleas as they touch it. You should replace these traps every day for the best effect.

In order for this trap to work efficiently, then you should place these traps at night. Fleas are nocturnal so they will be more active at night. However, don’t fall prey to the myth of placing a candle near these traps. This creates a fire hazard and it must too dangerous.

Remedy #2: Herbal Flea Spray

Another home remedy that is suggested is to use herbal sprays to get rid of fleas. This is a natural remedy made from all natural products, making it safe to use around pets and children.

  1. Mix together 2 liters of vinegar, 1 liter of water, 250 ml of lemon juice and 125 ml of witch hazel. Place this mixture into a spray bottle.
  2. Vacuum the floor where you plan to apply the solution. Make sure that you empty the bag immediately and place it outside.
  3. Wash all bedding and vacuum cushions. Fleas can hide in these places.
  4. Spray the solution in your home. Make sure you get all of the floor and furniture.

Remedy #3: Baking Soda

Baking soda is another amazing remedy for getting rid of fleas. It’s safe for pets and children, plus it gets deep into the fibers in the carpet and kills fleas that could be hiding.

  1. Sprinkle baking soda all over the floor of the infested room and use a hard brush to work it deep into the carpet.
  2. Allow the baking soda to sit for about an hour.
  3. Vacuum the room thoroughly. Make sure you empty the vacuum bag outside immediately when finished.
