Both subterranean and drywood termites cause damage to homes in Florida, with the dampwood variety also being common in the southern and central regions. However, dampwood termites cause less damage than drywood and subterranean termites because of their high moisture requirements.

According to TIP (Termite Infestation Probability) Zones, Florida is in the #1 zone (very heavy), meaning that the potential for damage is seen as significant. Regions with a high probability of activity need more stringent control measures in order to meet code building standards for new homes than regions where activity is lower.
